BERKELEY, CA — Police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting his neighbor in the
laundry room of an apartment building.

Ahmad Lutfi, 34, was arrested February 14, and he
remains in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $160,000 bond.

Several Berkeley PD officers responded to the report of a sexual assault on Valentine’s Day
at approximately 1 p.m. The incident allegedly occurred on the 2300 block of Le Conte
Avenue, near the Berkeley campus of the University of California.

The victim is identified as a woman in her 20s who attends the university. While officers
spoke with the woman, other officers searched the building and found Lutfi outside of his
apartment. Despite living in the same building as the suspect, the woman told police that she
was attacked by a stranger.

Moreover, it seems Lutfi shaved off his beard and changed his clothes, before responding
officers arrived at the scene.

“The suspect altered his appearance after the crime,” according
to a prepared statement from Berkeley police. “In a nearby communal restroom, officers found
a shaver with hair clippings on the floor.”

Officers next obtained a warrant to search Lutfi’s apartment, where additional evidence was
recovered. Lutfi was placed under arrest on February 14 at 1:44 p.m.

Multiple charges were filed against Lutfi on February 17. His charges include assault with
intent to commit a sex crime, false imprisonment, and sexual battery. He is also charged with
committing violent or bodily harm on a vulnerable victim.
