Suspect Apprehended in Connection with January 15 Fatal Shooting on San Bruno Avenue

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — On January 15, 2026, at approximately 9:42 p.m., San Francisco Police Department officers arrived at the intersection of 16th Street and San Bruno Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with an apparent gunshot wound.

First responders initiated medical aid, which included cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter to continue lifesaving measures; however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The SFPD Homicide Detail subsequently assumed responsibility for the investigation.

During the investigative process, detectives identified 38-year-old Evan Perez Villanueva as the suspect. Following this identification, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Perez Villanueva along with a search warrant for his vehicle.

On January 26, 2026, law enforcement located Perez Villanueva near the 200 block of San Bruno Avenue as he was entering a vehicle associated with the investigation. Officers took the suspect into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery and seizure of a shotgun.

Perez Villanueva was transported to the San Francisco County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of homicide under California Penal Code 187. While an arrest has been made, the SFPD states that the investigation remains open and active.
