Shasta County Sex Offender Arrested for Alleged Possession of Weapon, Violation of Probation
REDDING, CA — “On Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office AB109/SAFE team, along with detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and officers from the Shasta County Probation Department, conducted a probation compliance check at a residence on the 600 block of Saginaw Street, Redding. The subject of the probation compliance check was 65-year-old Duane Emerson Ohling, of Redding. Ohling is currently on formal probation in Shasta County and a registered sex offender pursuant to 290 PC.
During the compliance check, it was discovered that Ohling was searching and viewing pornography from his electronic device, which is a violation of his probation terms. Also located during the compliance check was a safe containing an assault rifle, multiple modified high-capacity magazines, and approximately 3,350 rounds of ammunition. Ohling is a convicted felon, stemming from a 2024 investigation and conviction, and is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
Ohling was subsequently arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on the following charges: 1203.2 PC – Violation of Probation, 29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm, 30305(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition, 30605(a) PC – Possession of an Assault Weapon, 30600(a) PC – Manufacturing an Assault Weapon.
Ohling is being held with no bail.
