Sacramento Police Arrest 20 year old Suspect in Eleanor Avenue Homicide

SACRAMENTO, CA — The Sacramento Police Department has announced the arrest of 20-year-old Juan Lara of Sacramento in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, January 24, 2026. According to official reports, patrol officers were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m. to the 900 block of Eleanor Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim with at least one gunshot wound.

Responding officers provided emergency medical assistance until Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Following the death, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation to process the scene, collect evidence, and interview witnesses.

Subsequent investigative work led to the identification of Lara as a suspect. With assistance from several specialty units, Lara was apprehended and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide-related charges. According to jail records, Lara is being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in Department 62 of the Sacramento County Superior Court on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 3:00 p.m

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is tasked with releasing the identity of the deceased individual once the next-of-kin have been officially notified.
