The incident began a little after 3:00 a.m. when a patrol officer noticed a Toyota Camry on Nut Tree Road with three passengers inside. On seeing the officer, the three began acting suspiciously, which in turn increased the officer’s attention on the vehicle. After discovering the Camry had been reported as stolen in Sacramento, the officer conducted a traffic stop.

The registered owner was not one of the passengers of the vehicle, and it also came to light that the plates on the Camry were stolen from a vehicle in San Jose. It was further discovered that Ortiz and Villarreal were on probation from Santa Clara and San Joaquin counties, respectively, and Ramos had been sentenced to prison time but released under the auspices of Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).

Ortiz was additionally charged with auto theft. Ramos was charged with possession of counterfeit bills as well as violating the PRCS terms. Villarreal was additionally charged with possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
