Elk Grove police detectives are continuing their search for Darius Gilbert, 48, who allegedly robbed the Chase Bank located at 7427 Laguna Blvd on Tuesday afternoon.

Police Spokesperson Christopher Trim said the robbery occurred about 12:47 p.m. when the suspect approached a teller and demanded money. While no gun or other weapon was shown to the teller, he said he was armed.

After the teller gave him an undisclosed amount of money, Gilbert— described as about 6 feet 5 inches tall, with an athletic build, short dark hair and wearing dark sunglasses, a white shirt with square patterns, blue jeans and black shoes— fled on foot heading east through a parking lot toward other businesses. No one was injured.

The FBI said Gilbert is a suspect in seven Bay Area bank robberies. He reportedly robbed five San Francisco banks from March 30 to May 14, and is also suspected to have robbed a Chase bank branch in Antioch on May 9. He has a warrant for his arrest out of San Francisco and is considered armed and dangerous since he carried a handgun and a knife during some of his robberies.

Trim said police arrived within minutes after the robbery, set up a perimeter and searched the area, but they were unable to find the suspect. The perimeter was broken down after about 50 minutes. Police said Gilbert may be driving a silver 2007 four-door BMW 750.
