Oakley Juveniles Arrested for Kidnapping, Carjacking, Attempted Murder

By Jim Emerson

OAKLEY, CA  — Two juvenile males from Oakley were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault
with a deadly weapon, carjacking, and kidnapping. One victim was shot in his head and two female
victims were threatened at gunpoint but they were not injured.

Both suspects were booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall, shortly after a shooting occurred
on January 19. Turns out, both two juvenile suspects also had outstanding arrest warrants involving
prior unrelated crimes.

Oakley police responded to the shooting at the intersection of East Cypress Road and Frank Hengel
Way at approximately 1:08 a.m. Officers found a young man bleeding from a gunshot wound, which
fortunately only grazed his head.

The man was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and released. Two other victims, a young
woman and a juvenile female were threatened during the carjacking, but later forced out from the
vehicle unharmed.

It seems the suspects demanded to be driven somewhere to purchase cannabis but the victims
refused. “The suspects took full control of the vehicle,” Oakley police said in a news release.
Evidently, the man who got shot “saw everything” and attempted to intervene. One of the suspects
shot through the windshield of the vehicle several times and struck him in the head.

Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted the vehicle speeding westbound on State Route
4. A high-speed pursuit ensued all the way to Orinda, where the vehicle was disabled and stopped.

The suspects were apprehended with additional help from Orinda police without further incident,
according to Oakley PD. The investigation is ongoing, anyone with information can contact Oakley
police at 925-625-8060.
