Fresno Man Fatally Shot During “Disturbance” Involving Multiple People, Police Say

FRESNO, CA — “On Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 2:43 pm, officers from the Central Policing District responded to the intersection of Angus Street and Yale Avenue regarding a large disturbance involving multiple subjects.  As officers responded, additional 911 calls were received stating someone had been shot.  When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Juan Alvarez on the ground, unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.  Officers and EMS personnel provided first aid and transported him to Community Regional Medical Center.  Unfortunately, Alvarez was unable to survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased today, January 19, 2026.

During their investigation, detectives learned that a large disturbance involving several subjects occurred near the intersection when Alvarez was shot. Detectives are currently tracking down video footage and are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the event and identify any individuals who may have information.  Anyone with details related to this shooting is encouraged to contact the Fresno Police Department.
