Three Suspects Arrested for Attempted Carjacking in San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Police arrested three men in connection with an attempted carjacking in
San Leandro on January 13 at 2:30 p.m.

Two of the suspects are from Oakland: Javier Morales, 20, and Dante Washington, 19. The third suspect is 21-year-old Malachi Thompson
from Richmond.

Men riding inside two vehicles tried to block the victim, near the intersection of Polvorosa
Avenue and Doolittle Drive. The suspects were reportedly armed with handguns and rifles,
but victim hit the gas and outmaneuvered them.

“The victim was able to flee from the scene in their vehicle, unharmed, and report the crime,”
San Leandro police said in a news release. “While arrests have been made, the investigation
is still ongoing.”

SLPD officers and detectives used automated license plate readers to track down one of the
suspect vehicles. The Mercedes SUV was identified traveling along 82 nd Avenue in Oakland.
Officers stopped the Mercedes on the 100 block of Glenwood Glade in Oakland, but three
suspects fled on foot. For a short time they vanished hiding in the residential greenery.

An extensive perimeter search was conducted with help from Oakland police. The Alameda
County Sheriff’s office also assisted with K-9 units on the ground and aerial surveillance.
San Leandro officers arrested the Morales, Washington and Thompson in the vicinity of
Duncan Way in Oakland.

They were transported to Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, where
they booked on charges including –
· Attempted carjacking
· Assault with a deadly weapon (firearm)
· Conspiracy to commit crime
· Evading an officer
