Student Detained After Stabbing at San Ysidro High School

SAN DIEGO, CA — “The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) responded Wednesday morning to a 9-1-1 call from San Ysidro High School regarding a stabbing that occurred in a classroom.

Just after 9 a.m., a male student entered a classroom at the high school and stabbed a female student multiple times before leaving the room. The school was immediately put on lockdown and the San Diego Police Department was called.

SDPD responded to the high school within 5 minutes and began conducting a search of the campus.

As they were conducting the final searches of the campus at about 10:45 a.m., a person of interest was located and detained. He was later determined to be the suspect after a knife and clothing used in the incident were found in his possession.

Due to both individuals being juveniles, their identities will not be released. The female student is being treated for her injuries that are considered non-life threatening.

This was an isolated incident and there are no further threats to campus. The lockdown of San Ysidro High School has been lifted, and instruction will resume as usual. If parents wish to pick-up their children from school, the School Library has been established as a reunification location.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact SDPD’s Community and Youth Services Division (858) 495-4708 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

The San Diego Police Department and Sweetwater Union High School District worked collaboratively on this incident to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we worked to locate and apprehend the suspect.”
