Five Suspects Arrested in Big Sur After Breaking into Occupied Residence

BIG SUR, CA — On Saturday, November 29, 2025, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office apprehended five individuals following a residential burglary in Big Sur.

The incident began at approximately 5:21 AM when a 911 call was received by dispatch from a victim residing on the 47,000 block of Pfeiffer Ridge Road. The victim reported that a minimum of two subjects had entered the occupied residence. The resident sought refuge in a bathroom while maintaining contact with the dispatcher. During the call, dispatch personnel believed the victim was experiencing a medical emergency and requested both law enforcement and medical response units.

Upon arrival in the area, responding deputies were notified by a firefighter of a vehicle observed stuck in a ditch near the burglarized home on Pfeiffer Ridge Road, with multiple subjects standing nearby. Deputies contacted and subsequently detained five individuals associated with the vehicle.

The resident of the home was contacted and received medical attention at the scene but declined transport to a medical facility. The subsequent investigation confirmed the involvement of the five detained subjects in the reported residential burglary.

The arrested suspects were identified as:

Monte Lee Laws, 26, of Seaside

Cooper Ervin Regier, 18, of Seaside

Kenneth Bucud, 20, of Seaside

Jeremiah John Gutierrez, 22, of Fresno.

A fifth suspect, Michael Jahiem Brison, 20, of Monterey, was transported to a medical facility for treatment of a medical emergency before being released into the custody of the Sheriff’s Office and subsequently booked. All five suspects were ultimately booked into the Monterey County Jail. They face charges of Burglary (459 PC), Felony Vandalism (594(B)(1) PC), and Conspiracy to Commit Crime (182(A)(1)). Bail for each suspect was set at $100,000.
