Just after midnight on November 9, a burst of gunfire tore through a southwest Santa Maria
neighborhood that left a 21-year-old man wounded.
According to Santa Maria Police, patrol units responded
to a call for service at a local area residence at 8:30 p.m. on the night of November 8, where “a
fight occurred” and a subject “fired several rounds toward a group of people” before speeding
away in “a silver Honda Civic” vehicle.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found “several spent shell casings” while none of those
targeted had been hit by the gunfire.
Just four hours later later, at about 12:35 a.m., as patrol units continued to fan out through the
neighborhood, officers spotted the suspect Honda and initiated “a high-risk stop.”
The driver was contacted and identified as Erik Estrada, 29, of Santa Maria.
Estrada was taken into custody and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked on
multiple charges of assault with a firearm.
Estrada remained in custody Sunday afternoon. His bail was set at $50,000.
