Man Who Allegedly Discharged Gun in Public Later Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting
REDWOOD CITY, CA — “On November 11, 2025, at approximately 2:31 PM, the Redwood City Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a male subject had discharged a firearm into the sidewalk before fleeing on foot in the area of the 200 block of Hazel Avenue.
Officers responded to the area and established a perimeter. Utilizing an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), officers were able to locate the suspect nearby. A contact team equipped with both lethal and less-lethal options was formed and approached the suspect to make contact.
As officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, he retrieved a firearm from his person and pointed it toward the officers. Less lethal and lethal munitions were fired. The suspect was struck, subdued, and immediately provided medical aid by officers at the scene. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds and was ultimately pronounced deceased. The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Redwood City resident Jose Reynaldo Lombera.
No other injuries have been reported during this incident.
As is customary, the officers directly involved in the event have been placed on administrative leave. The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office is the lead investigative agency, consistent with countywide protocol for officer-involved shootings. This event remains an active joint investigation between the San Mateo District Attorney’s Office, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office and the Redwood City Police Department.
