Suspect Arrested in Yermo for Murrieta Stabbing; Victim Remains in Critical Condition
MURRIETA, CA -On the night of October 31, 2025, the Murrieta Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing occurring near the intersection of Margarita Road and Torrey Pines Road. The department’s Communications Center received multiple 911 calls regarding the incident at approximately 10:53 p.m. Witnesses informed authorities that one adult male had stabbed another adult male before leaving the location.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located an adult male who had sustained multiple stab wounds. A responding officer administered immediate lifesaving first aid to the victim. Concurrently, additional officers initiated a search of the surrounding area for the suspect, but the individual was not located immediately following the incident.
The investigation progressed after the department issued a public request for information that included a photograph of the person sought in connection with the crime. This outreach led to the identification of a suspect. Detectives subsequently located the individual at a residence in Yermo, California, and on November 6, 2025, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The victim of the assault remains hospitalized in critical condition. The suspect, identified as Matthew McMahon, a 35-year-old resident of Temecula, California, was booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
McMahon faces charges including Attempted Homicide (California Penal Code section 664/187(a)) and Assault With a Deadly Weapon (California Penal Code section 245(a)(1)).
