“On Saturday, October 31, 2020, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a call for medical aid at Carlson Dog Park, located in the 4700 block of Buena Vista Avenue.

Parks & Recreation staff responded to open a gate for RFD to access the park. As they were doing so, an adult male suspect jumped in the city vehicle and drove away. Riverside Police Officers located the stolen vehicle and tried stopping it, but the driver failed to yield and led the them on a pursuit.

The driver eventually stopped and fled on foot near Tequesquite Avenue and Glenwood Drive. He ran into the Santa Ana river bottom and temporarily eluded officers. A short time later, a resident on Glenwood Drive called 911 to report a male was attempting to enter their residence.

Our Air Support Unit (Air-1) quickly responded and located the car theft suspect in the river bottom. A plan was developed and the suspect was safely taken into custody.

John Gilmore, 43-years-old from Riverside, was arrested and booked into jail for vehicle theft and evading police. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail.”
