SAN RAFAEL, CA — Detectives from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman on suspicion of identity theft involving fraudulent purchases. Aisuluu Mursalieva, 27, of Hayward, was booked at Marin County Jail on October 29.
An ongoing investigation was launched in August when a Marin County resident reported being a victim of fraud. The victim’s credit card account was used to make an unauthorized purchase at an Apple electronics store in San Francisco.
“The purchase was designated for store pick up,” a prepared statement from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. “Detectives were able to obtain video of the suspect picking up the fraudulently purchased item.”
Marin investigators collaborated with another law enforcement agency. A detective working on a similar investigation in another jurisdiction, identified Mursalieva as the suspect in the Apple store video.
Marin County detectives obtained warrants to arrest Mursalieva and search her Hayward residence.
Detectives recovered unopened boxes of electronic devices, counterfeit identification cards, and equipment for making ID cards.
A prepared statement from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office says. “Detectives located approximately 50 unopened Apple brand products, 50 counterfeit ID cards, a laminator, and a color scanner. There were also multiple unopened electronic devices of various brands.”
Mursalieva was held in lieu of $25,000 bond, and no longer in custody. She was booked on suspicion of the following charges –
· Grand theft
· Possession of forged driver’s License or ID
· Fraudulent use of an access card
· Unauthorized use of personal identifying information
· Possession of a device with intent to manufacture a deceptive identification document
Investigators are working to identify the origin of the products found at Mursalieva’s residence, and identify any additional victims of identity theft.
