“Operation Boo” Yields Four Arrests in Placer County Sex Offender Compliance Checks
PLACER COUNTY, CA – Law enforcement agencies in Placer County conducted a targeted series of compliance checks on registered sex offenders on Halloween night, resulting in the arrest of four individuals. The operation, termed “Operation Boo,” was a collaborative effort involving the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Persons Unit, the Rocklin Police Department, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The initiative focused on verifying that registered sex offenders were adhering to the specific terms and restrictions of their release, particularly during the hours when children are typically trick-or-treating. These checks included inspections of residences and vehicles to confirm compliance.
Operation Boo is conducted annually between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on October 31st. Under supervision guidelines, registered sex offenders are generally prohibited from actions such as distributing candy, displaying holiday-themed decorations, or illuminating porch lights during this period.
This year’s effort led to four arrests within Placer County. The individuals taken into custody were identified as:
- 40-year-old John Pavacich of Auburn
- 23-year-old Michael Abbott
- 38-year-old William Gomes of Sacramento
- 46-year-old Justin Turner
