A Placer County man faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assault on an officer after a bizarre incident in Colfax last week.

On March 10, deputies responded to the Dollar General for an alleged assault and came upon the suspect, 37-year-old Daniel Lindland, reportedly trying to burn a store employee with a blowtorch outside the store.

Deputies ordered Lindland several times to drop the torch and ended up having to knock it out of his hand with a baton.

At one point Lindland got a hold of the baton, but only briefly.

He was ultimately arrested and booked on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on an executive officer, and removing a weapon other than a firearm.
