Riverside Shooting Suspect Arrested After Fatal Incident in Grocery Store Lot
RIVERSIDE, CA – A shooting incident in a grocery store parking lot on Monday, October 13, 2025, resulted in one fatality and the apprehension of a suspect who remained at the scene. The City of Riverside’s Public Safety Communications Center received multiple calls reporting the incident, located in the 9200 block of Magnolia Avenue, at approximately 4:22 p.m.
Upon arrival, responding officers located an adult male victim who had sustained several gunshot wounds. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures; however, the victim was pronounced deceased from the injuries sustained. The individual identified as the suspected shooter remained on location and surrendered to officers without incident.
Detectives assigned to the Robbery-Homicide Unit, along with Specialists from the Forensics Unit, responded to the site and took over the investigation. They are receiving assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.
The preliminary findings of the investigation indicate that the victim, identified as Luis Gonzalez, a 27-year-old resident of Perris, and the suspect, Edgar Rivera, also 27 and a resident of Moreno Valley, were known to each other. The investigation is working to determine the circumstances that led Rivera to shoot Gonzalez in the parking lot in front of the store.
Rivera was subsequently arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on a charge of murder. He is currently being held on a $2 million bail.
