Bay Area Man Arrested for Allegedly Fleeing from Butte County Authorities on Motorcycle at 100 MPH

OROVILLE, CA  — “On September 29, 2025, at approximately 9:11 p.m., a Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle near Highway 162 and Oro-Dam Boulevard, due to a vehicle code violation. The rider initially pulled into a parking lot but then fled, leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit reaching 100 mph.

The pursuit ended on Hurleton Road, where the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot. Deputies pursued and, after a physical struggle, took the suspect, identified as Chris Lopez, age 56 of Daly City, CA, into custody. A handgun and two additional loaded magazines were found on the suspect, who is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Lopez was booked into the Butte County Jail on multiple felony charges, including: felony evading, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, resisting arrest, and assault on a peace officer.”
