NOVATO, CA  — A man with prior arrests for carrying a knife and/or dagger was arrested again this month—this time he allegedly stabbed a pedestrian. Anthony R. Pacheco, 38, of Novato, was booked at Marin County Jail, but he is no longer in custody.

The stabbing occurred at approximately 9pm on September 3rd at Del Prado Shopping Center, near the Circle K convenience store and gas station at 375 Ignacio Boulevard. It seems the victim was walking in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“The victim saw an unknown man and woman arguing,” Novato police said in a prepared statement. “The arguing man saw the bystander looking at them, and challenged him to a fight.”

Both men exchanged blows, until the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife, and the victim began running away. The suspect allegedly chased the victim while swinging the knife at him. The victim was struck in the his chest and sustained a minor wound, which was later treated at the scene.

The suspect fled the scene of the stabbing, but a description of him was broadcast on police radio. Officers saw him about 10 minutes later, near 551 Alameda del Prado. Officers recognized the suspect who fled again, and entered a nearby apartment.

Novato officers set up perimeter with help from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. Pacheco eventually surrendered himself, without further incident.

Pacheco was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting/obstructing an officer, and violation of probation. He has prior arrests for carrying a concealed knife/dagger, DUI alcohol/drugs, hit and run, among other offenses.
