OAKLAND,CA — Hakeem R. Jones, a 36-year-old San Pablo resident, faces multiple charges for
a freeway shooting last month in Oakland.
Jones allegedly shot at an occupied vehicle while traveling northbound on Interstate 880.
The incident on the busy freeway happened on August 15. Jones allegedly fired multiple
shots from a semiautomatic firearm at another driver.
Fortunately, no one was reported injured during the daring assault in heavy traffic. Both the suspect and victim were traveling
alone.
“The victim noticed Jones driving aggressively,” says a prepared statement from the Alameda
County District Attorney’s Office. “He was trying to pass other drivers on the freeway.”
Apparently, the suspect was unable to maneuver successfully to pass the victim’s vehicle. In a
fit of road rage, Jones allegedly fired multiple shots from an open window, striking the victim’s
vehicle.
Ultimately, Jones was placed under arrest on September 4 and transported to Alameda
County Santa Rita Jail. Jones was booked for attempted murder, and assault with a
semiautomatic firearm at an inhabited vehicle.
The county DA’s office filed a dozen charges against Jones the following day September 5.
His charges include assault with a semiautomatic firearm. He is also charged with shooting at
an occupied vehicle, and discharging a firearm at a vehicle.
The criminal compliant includes a charging enhancement for use of a firearm. “The
enhancement causes the offense to become a serious and violent felony,” according to the
statement from the DA’s office.
