A Fillmore woman with a violent criminal past was arrested on the afternoon of August 19 for
attempted murder.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jarrod Foote, deputies from
the Fillmore Sheriff’s station “responded to reports of a stabbing near Ventura Street.”
As they arrived at the scene, deputies discovered a man “suffering from a stab wound,” near the Santa Clara River bottom.
He was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital for emergency medical attention.
Investigators quickly identified the suspect as Patsy Escoto, 35, of Fillmore.
Escoto, who is on probation and subject to search terms, was believed to have fled the scene on foot.
Deputies launched an extensive search operation with support from the Fillmore Detective Bureau, the
West County Special Enforcement Unit, and the VCSD Air and K9 units.
Detectives learned that Escoto had boarded a Ventura County Transportation Commission bus
headed toward Santa Paula.
By the time authorities arrived, she had exited the bus and vanished into the area. Despite a ground search, she initially eluded capture.
A few hours later, just before 5 p.m., transportation officials notified law enforcement that
Escoto had boarded another bus — this time to Ventura.
Deputies coordinated a response and arrested her without incident as she stepped off the bus near the Ventura County Government
Center.
Escoto was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of
attempted murder, as well as on multiple outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.
She remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
