DUI Suspect Allegedly Caught with Narcotics, Loaded Ghost Gun During Traffic Stop
SHASTA COUNTY, CA — A Cottonwood man was arrested for the alleged possession of narcotics and loaded handguns during a traffic stop last week.
According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the night Friday, Aug. 15, on Happy Valley Road. The driver was identified as Joshua Allen Fitch, 46, of Cottonwood.
Upon verbal contact, Fitch allegedly showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
A K-9 unit was called to the scene to assist in the search and reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle.
Deputies reported finding about 2.58 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, just over 145 grams of suspected cocaine, 75 suspected Oxycodone pills, two loaded handguns, $6,610 in U.S. currency, and a digital scale.
Some of the narcotics were reportedly hidden in a cat litter container. One of the firearms also had its serial number removed and a magazine altered to hold more than 10 rounds, the sheriff’s office said.
The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force responded and took over the investigation.
Fitch was arrested on suspicion of narcotics sales, firearm violations and driving under the influence. He was booked into the Shasta County jail and remains in custody.
