Two Arrested During Traffic Stop After Deputies Allegedly Find Loaded Gun, Narcotics in Vehicle

CHICO, CA  — ” On July 25, 2025, at approximately 8:14 p.m., a Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy initiated a traffic stop near Skyway and Notre Dame Blvd in Chico for a vehicle code violation.

The driver, identified as Michael Hoezee, 31, of Oregon, was found with a Ziploc bag containing methamphetamine on his person. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded .22 caliber firearm, ammunition, methamphetamine, and hypodermic needles.

The passenger, identified as Nicolas Baurer, 37, of Oregon, was determined to be in possession of the firearm, ammunition, methamphetamine, and hypodermic needles based on evidence at the scene.

Baurer was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance while armed and possession of a firearm by a person addicted to narcotics. Hoezee was issued a citation for possession of a controlled substance.”
