ANTIOCH, CA — California Highway Patrol officers recently arrested David Milburn, 33, of Antioch, following two
freeway shootings.
Milburn remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1 million
bond.
Both shootings targeting male drivers happened a few hours apart. One driver was injured July 22
shortly before sunset.
A second driver was not injured, but his vehicle was damaged by gunfire during
the early hours of July 23.
The first victim was shot while driving westbound along State Route 4, near Willow Pass Road in
Concord. He was admitted to a hospital in Walnut Creek on July 22 shortly after 8 p.m., to receive
treatment for a gunshot wound.
A second victim’s vehicle was hit by gunfire in Oakland, near the interchange of State Route 13 and
State Route 24. This shooting happened on July 23 shortly before 1 a.m.
CHP detectives investigating both incidents identified Milburn as the suspect with help from freeway
traffic cameras. Officers attempted to stop the suspect’s car on eastbound Interstate 80, near Midway
Road in Vallejo.
“Milburn refused to stop, leading officers on a short pursuit before being arrested,” CHP said in a
prepared statement. “During the chase, officers saw him throw a firearm and two high-capacity
magazines from his vehicle.”
Ultimately, Milburn was arrested on July 23 at 1:45 a.m.
He was booked for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting at occupied vehicles.
He was also booked for multiple counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone information or involved in similar incidents with a white Chrysler
Crossfire sports car can contact the CHP at 707-917-4491.
