A Ventura woman is behind bars after allegedly attempting to abduct a 10-year-old girl.

The child was outside playing in an area behind the apartment complex where she lives.

The incident unfolded on the afternoon of July 22, 2025.

According to Ventura County District Attorney Public Information Officer Joey Buttitta, 25-year-old Trinity Trenay Stewart observed
the young girl at play and then “chased the child through an alleyway and grabbed her from
behind” near an apartment complex in Ventura’s Montalvo neighborhood.

The child “screamed and kicked” in a desperate attempt to get away, which caught the attention
of her mother who immediately intervened, causing Stewart to flee the scene on foot.

Ventura Police officers located nearby and detained Stewart a short time later.

A brief on-scene investigation and search of Stewart’s person ensued, leading to the discovery of a
methamphetamine pipe in Stewart’s possession.

Stewart was then taken into custody and transported to the Ventura County Jail where she was
booked on charges of false imprisonment, child endangerment, and possession of drug
paraphernalia.

Stewart remains in custody with her bail set at $100,000.
