OXNARD CA — May 31, 2025
A month-long investigation into 27-year-old Oxnard resident Richard Madrid’s possession of an
unregistered firearm led cops to the discovery of a cache of illegal weapons.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sr. Deputy Frank Corona,
detectives with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit launched the investigation in May “after
receiving information about a local man possibly in possession of an unregistered firearm.”
The suspect was identified as Madrid, whereupon a search warrant of his “person, residence,
vehicles, and property” was obtained.
On May 29 officers from the VCSD Special Enforcement Unit, Camarillo Directed Enforcement Unit, and Bureau of Investigations descended on Madrid’s residence,
served the warrant, and conducted a search of the premises.
That search led to the discovery of an AR-15-style assault rifle with no serial number—a firearm
that had been self-manufactured and fell under the category of a “ghost gun.”
Detectives also uncovered an unregistered AR-10 rifle, a Glock pistol modified into a short-barreled assault
weapon, as well as “additional unregistered guns, high-capacity magazines, and ammunition.”
Madrid was arrested at the scene and transported to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked
on multiple felony charges, including unlawful transfer of a firearm, possession of an assault
weapon, and possession of a short-barreled rifle.
