July 17, 2025 – Ventura County, Ca.
Two off-duty Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies are confronting serious criminal charges after an
early-morning altercation at a Camarillo bar.
Shortly after midnight on March 30, 2025, deputies Dylan Davis, 33, of Ventura, and Anthony
Malagon, 27, of Camarillo, were involved in a heated dispute inside the El Rey Cantina.
The argument, initially between Davis and his wife, spilled outside, where tensions quickly escalated.
According to Ventura County District Attorney Public Information Officer Joey Buttita, at that
point, both deputies “allegedly attacked a security guard who intervened after witnessing Davis
assaulting his wife.”
Malagon is also accused of joining in the attack while Davis allegedly “battered a female off-duty deputy who tried to restrain him.”
The security guard suffered injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit then conducted an extensive and
“detailed investigation” into the incident.
Their findings prompted prosecutor Senior Deputy DA Tony Wold of the Public Integrity Unit and District Attorney Erik Nasarenko to pursue arrests
with criminal charges filed on July 16.
“The felony domestic violence and assault charges are particularly serious and reflect the
outcome of a comprehensive investigation by the sheriff department’s major crimes division,”
said District Attorney Erik Nasarenko. “No one is above the law, and our office will continue to
work with our law enforcement partners to bring justice to all crime victims.”
Davis was arrested and booked on three felony charges, including assault by means likely to
cause great bodily injury, corporal injury to a spouse, and misdemeanor battery while Malagon
was booked on a charge of felony assault with bail amounts undisclosed.
