Suspect Arrested in Murder of “American Idol” Producer and Her Husband
LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of “American Idol” producer Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas DeLuca.
Kaye and DeLuca, both 70, were reportedly found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds at their Los Angeles home on the afternoon of Monday, July 14.
In a press release, the Los Angeles Police Department identified the suspect as 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian of Encino.
Police say they received a phone call that Monday morning requesting a welfare check at the victims’ home, as the caller had not heard from them for several days.
According to Today, police made entry into the home after finding a trail of blood on the front porch and found the deceased victims inside.
Police established a crime scene and began an investigation.
Investigators discovered that two calls had been made to police on the afternoon of July 10 about a possible burglary, after someone was seen scaling over a wall on the property.
ABC News reported that officers had responded to the residence and found no signs of forced entry, but ultimately could not enter the property because the perimeter was heavily fortified.
A police helicopter also flew over the property and reportedly found no signs of a disturbance.
Surveillance footage later confirmed that the suspect had indeed accessed the property by climbing over a wall, and homicide investigators concluded that the suspect had entered the home through an unlocked door.
Investigators believe that the victims came home while the suspect was still inside and a confrontation followed, ending with the victims being fatally shot.
The motive remains unclear, as the house did not appear to have been ransacked, LAPD Lt. Guy Golan told ABC.
Golan also told the outlet that there is no camera footage from inside the home, and that the LAPD plans a close review of the initial police response on July 10 to ensure protocol was followed.
At this time, investigators reportedly do not believe Boodarian knew the victims, nor is he suspected of any other burglaries.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
