LIVERMORE, CA — A routine traffic stop turned into a more serious law enforcement action
involving methamphetamine, and stolen copper wire.

The driver Jacob A. Ward, 24, of Livermore, was arrested and transported to Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.

During the evening of July 1, Livermore police conducted a traffic stop on the 3000 block of
Las Positas Road. It seems the pickup truck had an expired registration sticker on its license
plate.

An identification check revealed the driver was wanted for an outstanding warrant in San
Joaquin County.

“Ward had an active Ramey warrant from Lathrop police tied to a commercial
burglary,” Livermore police said in a prepared statement. “It involves the theft of hundreds of
pounds of copper from a construction site.”

Livermore officers found scrap copper in Ward’s pickup truck. In addition, officers discovered
Ward was carrying 40 grams of methamphetamine and more than $1,700 in cash.

Ward was arrested on suspicion of possession and transportation of a controlled substance
for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested for the outstanding
warrant for burglary and receiving or concealing stolen property.

Ward was booked at Santa Rita Jail during the early hours of July 2. He remains in custody in
lieu of $100,000 bond. Incidentally, he was also arrested in January for possession of a
controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia.
