Sheriff’s Office: Magalia Resident Arrested with Firearm and Methamphetamine

OROVILLE, CA  —  “On June 30, 2025, a Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) sergeant informed deputies that Jacob Ascheman, age 30 of Magalia, was at the Super 8 Motel in Oroville, standing near a vehicle. The sergeant knew Ascheman was wanted for burglary charges.

At approximately 9:37 a.m., deputies arrived at the Super 8 Motel, and Ascheman and Derek Barnett, age 35, of Paradise, fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, deputies placed Ascheman under arrest and detained Barnett. Barnett was arrested for an out of state felony arrest warrant and booked into the Butte County Jail.

During a search incident to his arrest, a firearm was located concealed in Ascheman’s waistband. Deputies searched Ascheman’s vehicle and located methamphetamine. Ascheman was booked into the Butte County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and a felony burglary charge.”
