Six Arrested in Torture and Murder of Yuma Man Found Burned in Winterhaven

WINTERHAVEN, CA  —  “The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office has arrested six individuals in connection with the brutal torture and murder of 23-year-old Jacob Sims from Yuma, Arizona, whose burned remains were discovered on November 15, 2024, at 2125 Rodenbaugh Road in Winterhaven, CA. The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit has identified the following individuals in connection with this case:

Gabriel Mills Jr.; Daniel Gavino Martinez; Gabriel Mills Sr.; and Sadie Hiatt were arrested and charged by the Imperial District Attorney’s Office with the following felony offenses:

PC 187(a) Murder
PC 209(b)(1) Aggravated Kidnapping to Commit Another Crime PC 206 Torture
PC 211 Robbery
PC 182(a)(1) Conspiracy: Commit Crime

Carla Gilmore and Lavonne Hill
were arrested on charges of:
•PC 32 Accessory After the Fact (Knowledge of Crime)

This investigation involved the execution of multiple search warrants, forensic examinations, digital evidence analysis, and interviews with key witnesses and suspects.

The arrests made this past week reflect our agency’s commitment to delivering justice for Jacob Sims and his family. This investigation remains active, and further charges or arrests may follow.
