EL CENTRO – An El Centro man eluded authorities, but not for long.

On March 5th at 10:00 pm Officer Crankshaw spotted three men on bicycles near the 1000 block of N. Imperial Avenue. The officer ordered one of the men to stop, but he refused.

Instead, he attempted to flee and was caught by the officer. A struggle ensued, in which both officer and suspect fell to the ground, after which time a passing vehicle struck them.

The suspect then fled and, with the assistance of his two pals, escaped. The officer received medical attention at Desert Regional Medical Center. His injuries were minor and he should recover completely.

The next morning  42-year-old Joel Cortez Obeso was arrested by the Brawley PD as the suspect from the previous night. He was “awaiting a court hearing on another case.” He now faces other, new charges.
