Motorcyclist Arrested for Allegedly Driving Under the Influence, Evading Law Enforcement in Sonoma County
“On May 22nd, 2025, at approximately 10:46 PM, a Cotati Police Officer observed a motorcyclist exit the 8 Ball parking lot and accelerate southbound on Old Redwood Highway to a speed greater than 80 miles per hour in a posted 35 miles per hour zone. After the Officer pulled the motorist over for his unsafe speed and was approaching him on foot, the motorist suddenly accelerated once again in an attempt to flee the traffic stop. The Officer returned to his patrol vehicle and pursued the motorist as he drove greater than 100 miles per hour towards Penngrove. At one point, the motorist crossed double yellow lines near a curvature in the road to overtake an unrelated motorist who was also driving southbound. After entering a gravel lot, the motorist seemingly lost control of the motorcycle and abandoned it before fleeing on foot into a nearby brush area.
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies, Officers from Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, and Sonoma State University Police Department arrived in the area to aid with locating the motorist. Soon after, the motorist was located hiding behind a closed business with an injury to his knee that he had sustained when he lost control of his motorcycle. Upon contact, the motorist was found to be on probation for a reckless driving conviction from 2024. Upon successful completion of a preliminary alcohol screening (PAS) device, the motorist’s blood alcohol content was noted at .109%. The motorist was transported by medics to an area hospital and placed under arrest for felony evading, felony evading on the wrong side of the roadway, driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a BAC above .08%, resisting or delaying arrest, driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving with wanton disregard for safety, and violation of probation.
Yet another example of why drinking and driving is dangerous and not worth the risk.”
