On May 25, 2025 at approximately 12:00 A.M., Porterville Police Officers were dispatched to the 1400 Block of North Highland Drive regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and contacted several victims who reported they had just been robbed by three suspects, one of whom was armed with a pistol. The victims reported that all three suspects entered a vehicle and fled from the scene immediately after the robbery.

Detectives with the Special Investigations Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detectives developed investigated leads and were able to determine the suspect vehicle was registered to 27-year-old Porterville resident Miguel Vargas, who resides in the Sub-100 Block of East Mulberry Avenue. Detectives responded to Vargas’ residence and ultimately observed the suspect vehicle arrive at the residence, but depart shortly thereafter.

Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle in the 1400 Block of North Lime Street and detained the driver, Miguel Vargas, and his passenger, 28-year-old Fresno resident Arron Johnson, Jr. During the traffic stop, Detectives determined Arron Johnson, Jr. had two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.

Shortly after the traffic stop, Detectives observed a male subject and a female subject walking away from the area of Vargas’ residence. Detectives contacted the subjects, who were later identified as 21-year-old Porterville resident Matthew Eudave and 21-year-old Porterville resident Sarah Peyron. Upon contact with Eudave and Peyron, a short struggle ensued with both subjects, during which Peyron struck a Detective several times before she was subdued. The Detective did not sustain any injuries and both were detained without further incident.

During subsequent investigation, Miguel Vargas, Arron Johnson, Jr. and Matthew Eudave, were determined to be the involved suspects in the robbery.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Miguel Vargas was booked at the TCSO South County Detention Facility on charges of Armed Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. Vargas is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Arron Johnson, Jr. was booked at the TCSO South County Detention Facility on charges of Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and his outstanding warrants. Johnson Jr. is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
