Man on Probation Arrested after Allegedly Being Caught with Unregistered Firearm

MADERA, CA — “Last night MPD officers conducted a welfare check at the 6 Suites motel where they contacted 32-year-old Brandon Crumley. As officers attempted to contact the occupants inside Crumley’s room, they heard the sound of a gun racking a round into the chamber. This was definitely odd since Mr. Crumley is on probation and prohibited from possessing a firearm. As Crumley was contacted, he was detained and found in possession of a concealed and unregistered handgun. Crumley’s direct violation of his probation earned him a ride to Madera County Jail where he was booked on weapons and probation violation charges.
These type of encounters are always dangerous for all those involved. Too often do we see similar incidents end in officer involved shootings on social media. Thankfully our officers involved showed great restraint and communication skills to gain compliance from Mr. Crumley to take him into custody peacefully.”
