Medical Office Burglary Suspects Arrested: Allegedly Part of a Nationwide Burglary Ring
By Jim Emerson
MILL VALLEY, CA — Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested two suspected medical
office burglars on April 30th.
In this case the victims’ bankcards were stolen at their workplace and fraudulent charges
were posted on their accounts.
The commercial burglary occurred in December.
A physical therapist found a suspicious man loitering inside her private office. He claimed he was seeking treatment for a knee injury, but
the particular physical therapist doesn’t treat knee injuries.
The suspicious man left shortly afterwards. Soon several clinicians discovered their
bankcards were missing from their unattended wallets. Their stolen bankcards were
immediately used for making fraudulent purchases.
Investigators identified an Oakland resident as the suspect, 43-year-old Adrian L. Thompson.
Upon further investigation, Thompson was identified a member of a commercial burglary ring
targeting victims at work.
This traveling crew has committed similar burglaries and identity thefts in Texas, South Carolina, and Washington state.
Detectives found Thompson and two others in Oakland, suspected of participating in a
nationwide burglary ring.
Thompson was arrested on April 30, along with Riana L. Buffin, 28, of Oakland.
They were both booked into Marin County Jail.
Thompson has eight prior burglary convictions, according to a prepared statement released
by the sheriff’s office.
He was booked for burglary and for an outstanding arrest warrant in Washington state.
Buffin was booked for being a fugitive from justice in Washington state.
She has prior arrests for burglary and grand theft on her record.
