NOVATO, CA — Marin County law enforcement agency collaboration resulted in the arrests of two
teenage shooting suspects.
The incident began as a juvenile disturbance in the Hamilton neighborhood, where multiple
gunshots were fired on April 9. An 18-year-old victim was shot at approximately 7:30 p.m.,
near Nave Drive and State Access Road.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries in his back, which sent him to a hospital.
Novato detectives and members of the San Rafael-Novato Crisis Response Unit searched multiple residences in Novato. They deployed a SWAT team and
crisis negotiators to crack the gang-related shooting.
Witnesses saw several persons fleeing towards the Lanham Village neighborhood, as responding officers arrived on the scene. Aerial drones, a K-9 team, and a California
Highway Patrol helicopter searched several hours for the suspects.
Novato detectives recovered a loaded firearm near the crime scene, which they believe was
used for the shooting.
No suspects were apprehended on the day of the shooting.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Central Marin Police Authority, and San Rafael police
participated in the investigation led by Novato PD. Evidence gathered during the inquiry
“confirmed this incident was targeted and gang-related,” Novato police said in a prepared
statement.
On April 22, police searched residences in the Bay Vista neighborhood, and Marin County
probation officers searched residences in southern Novato. Residents in the area were
advised to shelter in place.
These searches culminated in the arrests of two suspects, 15- and 16-years-old. They were booked at Marin County Juvenile Hall for attempted murder, and
charges related to participation in a criminal street gang.
