Major Firearms & Explosives Bust In Nevada City: Convicted Felon Arrested

NEVADA CITY, CA  — Kyle George Kjoller, 56, of Nevada City was arrested on April 4 after the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) received multiple 911 reports of Kjoller allegedly shooting guns on his property in an unsafe manner. One complainant also noted he has allegedly used Tannerite, a binary explosive, that is illegal in California. As a convicted felon, Kjoller is prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.

NCSO deputies visited Kjoller’s residence located on the 18000 block of Douglas Rd. in Nevada City on the evening of April 4. Kjoller was outside upon arrival and detained without incident. A protective sweep of Kjoller’s residence, out buildings, and property revealed multiple firearms in plain view. Kjoller was initially arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm – 29800(A)(1) PC and for being a prohibited person to own/possess ammunition – 30305(A)(1) PC. He was transported and booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

An NCSO detective secured a search warrant for the property, which was executed the same evening. A slew of firearms, ammunition, Tannerite and related were uncovered, specifically: 23 fully assembled firearms, plus eight uppers and six lowers that can be assembled into additional firearms; approximately 50,000 rounds of ammunition; 31 bricks of Tannerite; a suspected homemade firearm silencer; two body armor vests; and an abundance of firearm parts, such as triggers, stocks, scopes and pistol grips. Tools and presses that could be used to illegally create firearms or modify existing ones were also located.

Kjoller subsequently received additional arrest charges for illegally possessing an assault weapon – 30605(A) PC; for being a violent felon in possession of body armor – 31360(A) PC; for possession of a destructive device/explosive or similar weapon – 18710(A) PC; and for possessing a firearm silencer – 33410 PC.

Based on the totality of the items seized, deputies sought and received a no-bail enhancement. Kjoller remains incarcerated at Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and is not eligible for release at this time.

NCSO would like to thank the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the safe disposal of the Tannerite.”
