OAKLAND, CA  — A man faces criminal charges for a tragic collision resulting in the death of a
pedestrian.

Kelvin E. Leovander, 35, of Antioch, was booked and later released from Alameda
County Santa Rita Jail. Hayward police apprehended Leovander at Oakland International
Airport.

The fatal collision happened on February 10, near the intersection of Tennyson Road and
Calaroga Avenue in Hayward. Police responded to a report of collision that day involving a
vehicle and a pedestrian shortly before 7 a.m.

The victim Lydia Guerra, a 26-year-old resident of Hayward, was found unresponsive in the
roadway. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Leovander, the driver suspected of hitting the victim, was detained near the scene of the
tragedy, and was placed on a mental hold for a period of time.

Subsequently, Leovander was arrested on April 4 when he returned to Alameda County from out-of-state.
Hayward PD obtained a warrant for Leovander. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office
collaborated with Hayward police who took custody of her.

He has since been released from custody, pending further investigation.
The following felony-level charges were filed against Leovander –
* Vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence
* Leaving the scene of an accident causing death/permanent injury
* Fleeing the scene of a crime

The case remains active. Anyone with information concerning this fatal collision can contact
