Motorist Driving with Expired Registration Caught with Six Pounds of Meth, CHP Says

OROVILLE, CA — Expired registration reportedly led to a man’s arrest for the alleged possession of several pounds of methamphetamine in Butte County, according to authorities.

In a press release, the California Highway Patrol reported that a patrol officer had pulled over a motorist for “unusual driving behavior” in the southern part of the county on April 2.

Although the vehicle displayed 2025 tabs, a records check revealed that the vehicle’s registration had been expired since 2022, authorities said.

Authorities reportedly also discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance.

Officers conducted a probable-cause search the vehicle and discovered approximately 6 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, a small amount of fentanyl, a digital scale, and around $6,800 USD, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver was ultimately arrested for the alleged transportation and sales of illegal drugs and was booked into the Butte County jail.
