Butte County Deputies Arrest Two After Vehicle Pursuit

“Oroville, CA – On March 6, 2025, at approximately 6:28 p.m., the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) dispatch center was contacted by a resident who reported Eduardo Carmona, age 22, of Oroville was involved in a verbal altercation with family members. The caller reported Carmona fired at least two shots before leaving the area in his vehicle.
Deputies located a vehicle matching the description of Carmona’s vehicle in the area of Palermo Honcut Highway andCox Lane. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. After pulling over the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Carmona, accelerated and drove away.
Carmona led deputies on a pursuit through Oroville, Forbestown and into Yuba County. Carmona lost control of the vehicle and hit a telephone pole on Laporte Road.
Deputies arrested Carmona and a passenger in the vehicle, who was identified as Justin Martinez, age 42, of Oroville.
During the subsequent investigation, deputies determined a firearm was thrown from Carmona’s vehicle during the pursuit. Deputy Miller and his Police Service Dog (PSD) Chico responded and searched for the firearm. PSD Chico is trained to locate discarded articles when transferred human odors are present on the articles.
PSD Chico located a high-capacity firearm magazine and several rounds of ammunition on the side of the road. PSD Chico also located a firearm which was approximately 20 yards down a steep ravine. During the investigation, it was determined the firearm was stolen from a Chico resident.
Carmona was booked into the Butte County Jail on multiple felony charges to include evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for public safety, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of stolen property, possession of a high-capacity magazine, violation of the terms and conditions of his probation, and willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner. Martinez was booked for a felony arrest warrant.”
