Man Faces Charges for Supermarket Assault with a Semiautomatic Firearm

BRENTWOOD — A man faces multiple charges for an assault of a supermarket customer. Giovanny
O. Gomez, 28, of Antioch, allegedly brandished a semiautomatic firearm at a victim at Safeway on
Second Street in Brentwood.

Officers responded to a report of an armed man at Safeway on January 10 at 8:30 p.m. Brentwood
police said in a prepared statement, “The victim stated the suspect brandished a firearm and
threatened him.”

Officers saw the suspect nearby inside his vehicle. “Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop, a
procedure for stopping a vehicle (linked) to a serious crime, where the suspect may be armed,” the statement read.
Fortunately, Gomez was detained and taken into custody without further incident. A search of his
vehicle turned up a loaded semiautomatic firearm. Gomez was placed under arrested minutes later at
8:38 p.m.

Gomez was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, before being moved to the West County
Detention Facility Richmond. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bond, however he is presently no longer
in listed in the county jail roster.

Gomez is next scheduled to appear in court on January 27. He faces felony charges of assault with a firearm, threats, assault with a semi-auto firearm.
