Two individuals were arrested on various charges after initially being pulled over for expired registration in Turlock.

According to a press release by the Turlock Police Department, an officer stopped a vehicle on northbound South Golden State Boulevard for expired registration. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Valintina Guerra, 33, of Modesto and one of the passengers, identified as Mario Torres, 19, of Delhi.

The officer discovered that Guerra had a felony warrant for her arrest in an unrelated case.

The officer conducted an inventory search of the vehicle and reportedly found an open container of alcohol and a backpack near Torres. The officer found that the backpack contained a loaded short-barrel mini Draco AK-style rifle.

Torres, who allegedly provided a false name at first, was arrested on suspicion of the illegal possession of an assault weapon, possession of a short-barrel rifle, carrying of a loaded firearm in public, carrying of a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of a large-capacity magazine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, open container, and providing a false name to a police officer.

Both Guerra and Torres were ultimately booked at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
