“A person called the police when they saw three people who appeared to be breaking into a vehicle and then stealing it. Officers found the vehicle and tried to stop it, but it sped away. As the vehicle sped away, a handgun was thrown out of the car, which other responding officers quickly recovered. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a dirt embankment as it exited the freeway. Three people fled the vehicle on foot after the crash. Two of those people were caught by police and found to be juveniles. The third suspect was never located despite an extensive search.

The vehicle was stolen out of San Diego, and the teens were also suspected of an earlier theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods, where over $1000 in merchandise was taken. The two juveniles were booked into Juvenile Hall, and the investigation is continuing for the third suspect.
