In an incident occurring last night at approximately 8:15 pm, Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies encountered a stolen white Ford Crown Victoria in the vicinity of Watt Avenue and Peacekeeper Way in North Highlands. Upon attempting to initiate a vehicle stop, the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Anthony Whitley, engaged in a high-speed pursuit with deputies for approximately 15 minutes. Deputies successfully executed a PIT maneuver, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Subsequently, Whitley attempted to flee on foot but was promptly apprehended by Sheriff’s K9 Philbert.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a loaded shotgun, an imitation handgun, and several Sacramento County Sheriff’s uniforms and other attire bearing Sheriff’s insignias. Due to the vehicle’s resemblance to law enforcement vehicles, coupled with the recovery of weapons and Sheriff’s clothing, concerns have been raised regarding Whitley’s potential attempt to impersonate a Deputy. It has been confirmed that Whitley has no affiliation with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office or any other law enforcement agency.

Authorities are now focusing their efforts on a comprehensive investigation led by detectives from the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Bureau. They are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying any potential victims who may have been approached by Whitley impersonating a member of law enforcement. Such actions are considered a serious breach of public trust with law enforcement agencies.

Individuals with pertinent information are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
