“On December 26th and 27th 2023, the first Jury trial was held in the recently remodeled historic courthouse in Willows.  The case was about a defendant who, while acting in concert with her codefendants took more than a thousand dollars of merchandise from Willows Walmart without paying.  The jury convicted the defendant of felony possession of stolen property while acquitting on a couple of lesser misdemeanor charges concerning drugs and a forged check.

The defendant will be sentenced in February after the Probation department prepares a report and recommendation.  The codefendants in the case have already pled guilty and been sentenced.  The case was tried by DA Stewart with assistance from Sgt. Lemmon of GCSO who was the investigating officer and the loss prevention department at Walmart.   The DA’s Office thanks the entire jury pool for their time and patience. We recognize doing jury duty during the holidays is an extra sacrifice, but their work is vital and necessary for our system of justice to function.”
