In a collaborative effort involving the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, S.C.A.R.E. (Santa Cruz County Auto Theft Reduction Enforcement), CHP – Santa Cruz, and Santa Cruz Police Officers, a search warrant executed at an address near the San Mateo and Santa Cruz County line yielded significant findings. During the operation, officers made several discoveries, including a stolen vehicle on the property, illegal firearms, including assault rifles, and evidence related to firearm manufacturing. Additionally, law enforcement rescued a malnourished pitbull that had been chained to a tree, ensuring the animal’s safety under the care of the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.

The operation resulted in the arrest of Sergio Deharo Ortega, who now faces multiple charges in connection with these findings.

The successful collaboration between law enforcement agencies highlights the commitment to maintaining community safety and upholding the law.
