New Suspect Arrested for a Mass Shooting at Teenage House Party

OAKLEY—A new suspect was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation of a mass shooting at a teenage house party. Sean A. Karp, an 18-year-old resident of Oakley, is in custody in lieu of $3.5 million bond. Karp is being housed at the Martinez Detention Facility.

Karp was arrested on November 30th with assistance from the U.S. Marshal Service. Oakley police apprehended him in Brentwood, on the 900 block of Second Street.

Karp is allegedly responsible for a fatal shooting on Shannon Way in Oakley. It was a loud party overcrowded with teenagers on October 21st that turned tragically violent.

One victim, a 16-year-old boy from Brentwood died at the scene. Three other shooting victims survived their gunshot wounds. One is a 17-year-old girl, and the other two victims are boys, 15 and 16 years old.

Police responded to a noise complaint and left, approximately 30 minutes before gunfire erupted. Partygoers immediately ran outside the house, and the suspect fled from the scene before the police returned.

Another suspect arrested on October 25th was subsequently released, pending further investigation.

The Contra County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies have assisted in the investigation. In a prepared statement the Oakley Police Department said. “New evidence was revealed. Detectives were provided with information from people previously disinclined to talk with us.”

Karp is suspected of homicide. Charges against him are pending from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
